HAVEN HENS
Started Pullets for Backyard Flock Owners
Hens for Sale
We are entering our eighth year of helping backyard flock owners add one or more ladies who are fully feathered and ready to be immersed into to their flock.
Avoid chick rearing catastrophes, unanticipated roosters and biosecurity blunders with started pullets.
Due to customer requests for hens already laying come spring, we are offering hens started earlier then ever before alongside our usual flock started in winter.
Hen Purchasing Options
We are offering greater flexibility for picking up your hens, with three different pricing tiers based on pickup date. Place a 30% deposit to reserve your ladies for a March or April pickup with coupon code APRILDEPOSIT, with the remaining due upon pickup. Or pay in full at checkout for a streamlined pickup in March or April.
When will my chicken lay an egg?
Even with plenty of light, some breeds take longer to mature and come into lay (production) then others. White Leghorns started laying by 18 weeks of age (4 1/2 months). Most common backyard favorites take a little longer to mature; Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussexes tend to start closer to 5.5 months with most colored egg layers starting a few weeks afterwards. Large bodied birds such as Brahmas and English Orpingtons require greater time as the focus is on building their frame before they start laying, sometimes starting closer to 7 1/2 months of age. All the more reason to start with hens in production or near it.

2026 FLOCKMATES
Over 50 Breeds and Varieties Offered
This is the full flock of chickens we offer across three different age ranges.
Please note that the Third Flock "Third." will only be available during our in person Hen Sales Starting on April 4th and are thus not available for purchase online.
Since 2015, the cost of chicks and rearing costs has doubled. While we have been hesitant to raise prices and had previously maintained prices for most breeds, we have to in order to continue to raise chickens to support our youth mentorship horse program. We will also utilize a reservation system to book a pick-up time that is convenient for you rather than our traditional hen sale dates earlier in the season.
Our "First Flock" hatched in July and will be twice the age of previous offerings, providing eggs far sooner. These birds are priced to cover the added feed and bedding costs that one would normally incur to get a hen to that age. One can choose to pick up birds from "First Flock" earlier and use the coupons below to get them at a lower cost.
While we had hoped to get all of our chicks around the same time, some were delayed resulting in the creation of "Second Flock". This group also features Salmon Faverolles and an assortment of Easter Eggers with varying features, most notably some frizzled ones.
Our last set of birds was acquired when we would usually start pullets for our traditional Hen Sales. These pullets hatched between January and February for pickup starting mid March. While chickens are considered fully feathered between 6 and 8 weeks of age. Our youngest set may benefit from additional warmth for a little while longer. Please make sure you have an insulated, dry, draft-free coop if bringing home your additions or keep the weather in mind.
. Thanks again for your patience and support last year!
