Silkie Bantam
Silkies are true bantams, which are miniature chickens that lack full sized counterpart, and are known for their unique featheres and docile nature. The feathers of Silkies closely resemble a boa, or a featherduster.
Our remaining five Silkies are blue/blackish with one partridge.
Their unique feathers can make then especially difficult to sex which is why we ordered them all as sexed females though there is a chance both the sexers and us have missed an accidental male. Sexed Silkies (and bantams in general), present the greatest initiall costs of our birds at $15 a chick hence their $40 price as started pullets.
For those lacking an incubator and hoping to hatch their own chickens, Silkies tend to go broody and often make great mothers. However, ther docile nature may leave them more prone to being picked on and extra care should be taken when introducing them to previously established flocks. We've found they get get along best with other bantams and more gentle breeds like Orpingtons, Brahmas, Speckled Sussex and Polish.
We also have Mille Fleur d'Uccle bantams as sexed females with limited availibilty, they are availible on Open Coop Days and for our "Early Birds".
